Hemp which is better known as cannabis or marijuana has received a bad reputation due to it providing a high when smoked but whilst this may be true many think that its benefits to human health far outweigh its adverse traits. This is an argument which may have continued for generations except for the fact that science had a breakthrough in the make-up of the hemp plant.
It had long been known that cannabinoids present in hemp were responsible for both the health benefits the plant could potentially provide and also for the highs it did provide. The beneficial cannabinoids contained CBD (Cannabidiol) whilst the adverse cannabinoids contained THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) but the 2 could not be distinguished one from the other, until now.
Now the scientists can distinguish cannabinoids containing CBD and those containing THC, they can use the CBD cannabinoids to benefit health, including products like CBD pain cream and CBD oil for help with stress, all of which are free from the possible side-effects of THC. This is a breakthrough which even the Ancient Egyptians would have appreciated 4000 years ago as they, as with most civilizations since, have had to use hemp for medical purposes whilst accepting the adverse side-effects associated with its use.
Although when a pot smoker would tell people that marijuana was the most beneficial plant on the planet, those people would laugh but actually the pot smoker may be right, hemp could be the most beneficial plant on the planet, to humans at least or close to the most beneficial. Not only is it thought that hemp has potentially, as yet, unknown health benefits but it can be the source of oil for automobiles. This is a fact which has long been known as the first Ford car ever designed, was specifically designed to run on hemp oil. The pulp of the hemp plant also has the potential for unlimited use in garments, materials to replace plastic and the replacement of paper for making many products. Paper, of course, is made from wood which is leading to deforestation contributing to global warming but as hemp can be grown in just 6 months, the plant can be harvested twice a year, greatly reducing the number of trees which have to be cut down annually. Although perhaps not the complete answer to global warming, it could help to make a significant difference as trees take years and even decades to fully replace and they are the lungs of the planet.
